Mapping Our Neighborhood for Disaster Prep

A few years back the WSNA held map your neighborhood meetings to help Washington Square prepare in the event there is a disaster. Every second counts during the “Golden Hour” after an emergency. This is the period of time following a traumatic injury during which there is the highest likelihood that prompt medical and surgical treatment will prevent death.

Since Police and Fire personnel will not be able to help right away it is up to us to take care of and help one another till help can arrive. Which is why the Redcross Map Your Neighborhood program is a great way to help neighbors get prepared for the “Big One”.

Here is a video from Perry Helm on Map Your Neighborhood that was broadcast recently on Spectrum News:

As many of us know, just a little bit of preparation makes a huge difference in the event of a disaster.  So if you’re interested in having a Map Your Neighborhood program on your block, please let your block captain or the WSNA know and we can help organize one! Stay safe our there.
